Daily Play Call #54

12 In the meanwhile, when so many thousands of the people had gathered that they were trampling on one another, Jesus commenced by saying primarily to His disciples, Be on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy [producing unrest and violent agitation].

2 Nothing is [so closely] covered up that it will not be revealed, or hidden that it will not be known.

3 Whatever you have spoken in the darkness shall be heard and listened to in the light, and what you have whispered in [people’s] ears and behind closed doors will be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Luke 12:1-3 AMPC

Beware of hypocrites

Jesus tells the disciples that they are to be on guard against the teaching but also the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. The Pharisees taught the Scriptures but did not do what they taught. They were acting as if they lived lives that were holy, but they did not. They were greedy and extortioners. They were also very prideful.

"Then Jesus said to the multitudes and to His disciples,

2 The scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat [of authority].

3 So observe and practice all they tell you; but do not do what they do, for they preach, but do not practice."

Matthew 23:1-3 AMPC

Jesus tells the people to obey what they tell you but don't follow their example because they preach but do not practice what they preach. Jesus wants us to practice what we preach. Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and do it!

28 But He said, Blessed (happy and to be envied) rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey and practice it!

Luke 11:28 AMPC

  • Hypocrites can't make plays in the faith because they do not practice or do the Word.

  • Playmakers in the Faith are hearers and doers of the Word!
